Ro Khanna, the dynamic progressive US representative from California, was inspired to enter politics by the legacy of his grandfather, Amarnath Vidyalankar (1901–1985), the legendary Indian trade unionist, independence campaigner, and parliamentarian. Though he was born and raised in the United States, Khanna traveled frequently to India as a youth, and he speaks movingly of how “our family’s values come from my grandfather’s embrace of a Gandhian worldview” in particular, Mahatma Gandhi’s belief “in the oneness not of merely all human life but in the oneness of all that lives.”

New Delhi:Â Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna was appointed as the Democratic vice-chair of the Congressional India Caucus Thursday, a position created for the first time since the body’s formation in 1994.
While the 44-year-old legislator from California has always been a strong proponent of India-US ties, he shares a somewhat fraught relationship with conservative Hindu Indian-Americans.

WASHINGTON: Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna is a dynamic and progressive thinker who will make a positive contribution to public affairs in the US and leave an indelible impact on American politics, according to his family members.
Khanna, who represents the Silicon Valley in the US House of Representatives was recently named as the Democratic vice chair of the Congressional India Caucus. The seat has been created for the first time since its formation in 1994.

Khanna, 44, who was recently elected for a third consecutive term from the congressional district representing Silicon Valley, is being considered as a potential contender to fill the US Senate seat from California that will fall vacant in January after Kamala Harris is sworn in as the country’s vice president.
“I believe Ro Khanna would be an outstanding Democratic Vice Chair,” Congressman Brad Sherman, Democratic Co-Chair of the Caucus, said in an email to his Congressional colleagues Wednesday.
