Banking stocks suffer despite higher dividends

Among the 27 listed banks, 10 declared higher dividends, 11 the same, and seven lower.
Pubali Bank Managing Director Md Abdul Halim Chowdhury said the stock market was in a better position last year that positively impacted their profits.
When the market did turn bullish, banks generated higher profits and had to keep a reduced amount in provisioning in the portfolio compared to that a year earlier, he said.
So, our profits were impacted positively in two ways, he said.
The Bangladesh Bank also ordered banks not to classify loans in 2020. As a result, lenders did not require to set aside a higher amount of funds in provisioning. ....

Brahmanbaria Sadar inspector transferred

Ishtiaq joined the police station in 2014 and was promoted as an inspector on December, 2019.
His transfer comes one and half month after Hefajat-e-Islam activists carried out violence in Brahmanbaria on March 26 to March 28 centering Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi s visit to Bangladesh.
Earlier on April 26, Md Abdur Rahim, officer-in-charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station was transferred and attached to Rangpur Range Police.

CHATTOGRAM, May 10, 2021 (BSS) – Six people, including a mother and her daughter, were killed in three separate road accidents in Chattogram city and district today.
The victims were identified as Abdur Rahim, 26, Aysha Akter, 28, and her eight-year-old daughter Priya, Sunil Das, 70, and Motorcyclists Md. Abu Bakar, 48, and Majid Uddin, 36.
Three CNG-run auto rickshaw passengers including a mother and her daughter were killed by hitting a truck in Sadhanpur area under Banskhali upazila of the district and two motorcyclists were killed in a collision with a bus in Bakalia area in the city.
Police said a Pekua-bound CNG taxi collided head-on with a cement-laden truck in Damdama Dighi area of Sadhanpur Union under Banskhali upazila at 11am today. ....

Man arrested over killing father for Tk 2,000 in Pabna

A man was arrested yesterday over killing his father a few weeks ago over borrowing of Tk 2,000 and not being able to return it in Pabna. The accused Abdur Rahim (43) of Horipur village in Ataikula of Pabna was arrested from Dhaka, said Md Jalal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ataikula Police Station, reports our Pabna correspondent.
