Stocks end lower on profit taking in blue-chip shares

Stock slid on Monday as investors took profits from recent gainers such as cement, textile, banks shares following the marketâs rapid ascent last month, dealers said.
Pakistan Stock Exchange s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 shares index shed 0.3 percent or 137.09 points to close at 46,248.45 points. Volumes decreased 693.615 million shares, from 840.296 million shares on Friday. KSE-30 shares index also dipped 0.57 percent or 110.71 points to end at 19,208.14 points level.
Of 430 active scrips, of which 193 increased, 219 lost, and 18 remained unchanged.
Dealers said the market opened the week on a positive note amidst a lower-than-expected inflation number of 5.65 percent year-on-year and positive developments on the vaccine front. Profit taking near the close of the session piled on the pressure which led the index to eventually settle 0.30 percent down. ....

Stocks on Tuesday bounced back from back-to-back lows, lifted mainly by energy with power playing a supporting role, amid hopes of high-rewarding earnings results for the quarter ended December 31, 2020, the dealers said.
Pakistan Stock Exchange s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 shares index gained 0.39 percent or 176.55 points to close at 45,903.23 points. Volumes decreased to 491.787 million shares, from 543.645 million shares on Monday. KSE-30 shares index also rose 0.7 percent or 132.91 points to end at 19,152.66 points.
Topline Securities in a research note said, energy sector saw renewed investor interest amidst news reports that the Power Division has proposed to the ECC for allowing MARI to remove cap for dividend distribution after which the stock closed at it upper circuit. ....

Stocks on Monday suffered casualties after retreating international crude oil triggered an energy rout, while cyclical also bore the brunt of profit-selling, dealers said.
Pakistan Stock Exchange s (PSX) benchmark KSE-100 shares index lost 0.44 percent or 204.32 points to close at 45,726.68 points. Volumes increased to 543.645 million shares, from 531.065 million on Friday. KSE-30 shares index also dipped 0.47 percent or 89.89 points to end at 19,019.75 points.
Topline Securities in a note said stocks struggled to sustain above the 46,000 points in a volatile session and eventually succumbed to selling pressure, while a dip in international oil prices dented energy sector. ....

Index ends flat as investors' book profits on energy gains

The stock market on Tuesday ended flat following a choppy session, as institutions sold their holdings to book profits and seasoned investors anxiously waited for cabinet approval on construction sector and government nod on energy bonds, dealers said.
Topline Securities in a note said the benchmark KSE-100 shares index witnessed a choppy session as it touched an intra-day high of 44,830 (up 0.32 percent) and an intra-day low of 44,458 (down 0.51 percent) to eventually close flat at 44,650 (down 0.08 percent).
Kot Addu Power Company Limited (Kapco) remained in the limelight, owing to the partial payment pertaining to the circular debt, with its stock closing at the upper circuit. ....
