Cash, checks stolen from SUV while couple in church or dining A Newport couple attending Mass and a chicken barbecue Saturday afternoon at St. Anne Catholic Church had their 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe broken into and cash, checks and checkbook stolen while they were in church or dining. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the theft occurred between 4:25 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, 2420 N. Dixie Hwy. About $500 in cash, a checkbook and three checks that were already written out, including one for $3,800, were missing from the sport utility vehicle were missing when the couple returned, a deputy’s report said. Apr 28, 2021 ESCANABA Kathryn M. “Kay” Perow-Ammel, 74, of Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021, at her daughter’s home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Escanaba on March 11, 1947, the daughter of Emil and Clara (Kleiman) Perow. Kay graduated from Holy Name High School in 1965 and attended college in DePere, Wis. In 2001, she married Bernard Ammel in Escanaba. Kay spent the majority of her years working in the business office at OSF St. Francis Hospital until her retirement. She took pride in tending to her flower beds. Kay always looked forward to traveling to music festivals with family and friends, old country music ran through her veins. She grew up with a love for the lake. Kay was fond of the water and enjoyed camping, fishing, and taking care of her pet ducks, who were her “loves”. She was a member of the Northern Lights YMCA and the Escanaba Eagles. Kay loved to laugh, and it was infectious to those around ....

Steubenville, Ohio, Apr 24, 2021 / 15:01 pm (CNA). The Franciscan University of Steubenville is conducting a research study to better understand COVID-19 and herd immunity. Through its School of Natural Applied Sciences, the university plans to evaluate 500 students and faculty by the end of April. The study is led by biology professor Dr. Kyle McKenna. The Biology Department and the Franciscan Institute of Science and Health provided for the initial costs of the study, but it recently received a grant by the American Life League. According to a university statement, McKenna said senior nursing majors have already drawn blood from 200 individuals. The blood is then analyzed for coronavirus antibodies. ....
