'Our Balbriggan' plan to get safety pillar to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour


A new initiative is to be taken in Balbriggan to help tackle crime and antisocial behaviour and build a safer town for everyone.
The Balbriggan Leadership Group will meet to ratify the establishment of a new Safe Balbriggan Pillar in the Our Balbriggan plans for the town s future at their quarterly meeting this Wednesday (February 17).
At their meeting on October 20 last, the Leadership Group agreed to a proposal to establish a fifth pillar of the Our Balbriggan Rejuvenation Plan 2019 - 2025 focusing on community safety in response to community feedback seeking investment in this sphere.
Officials from Fingal County Council, the Department of Justice and An Garda Síochána have worked together over the past few months to establish a framework for a pillar focused on community safety in Balbriggan ....

Councillors ask for judicial review over green light for apartments


Swords councillors have called for a judicial review over the decision by An Bord Pleanála to grant planning permission to MKN Property Group for an apartment complex at Fosterstown, Swords.
The Strategic Housing Development (SHD) is to be constructed as part of Phase 1 plans at the townlands of Fosterstown North and Cremona, Swords.
The development will see the construction of hundreds of new apartments as well as a creche and retail units.
The Strategic Housing Development process allows large-scale developments to bypass local authorities and go straight to An Bord Pleanála.
A motion put forward by Cllr Dean Mulligan (I4C) and Cllr Ann Graves (SF) at a recent meeting of the full council - and signed by all Swords councillors - called on Fingal County Council to challenge the decision by An Bord Pleanála by way of a judicial review. ....

Big €15m boost for NTA projects across Fingal


Fingal County Council has received almost €15 million in funding from the National Transport Authority for sustainable transport projects around the county.
Some €14,870,000 provided from the NTA will help progress 23 projects across Fingal such as the Harry Reynolds Road Cycle Track, Donabate Estuary walking and cycling route and the Broadmeadow Way. These projects are part of a wider sustainable transport infrastructure programme to tackle climate change.
Providing safe and sustainable infrastructure will undoubtedly assist the growing numbers of cyclists who are now using the roads in towns and villages across Fingal over the past years.
The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. David Healy welcomed the announcement: This is wonderful news. We are seeing many more people in Fingal walking and cycling due to the pandemic, so it is crucial that we develop quality routes for walking and cycling to allow greater movement within our communities. Fingal business gears up for local Enterprise Week


Local Enterprise Week is back in Fingal and this time it is going virtual.
The Local Enterprise Office (LEO) network has launched a series of exciting business events and initiatives to take place completely online during Local Enterprise Week (LEW), which is happening between the March 1 and 5, 2021.
The pilot Virtual LEW will allow local business owner/managers to learn, engage and network around the country directly, whether from essential workplaces or their home offices.

Balbriggan 'placemaking' projects get €33,000 fund


Fingal County Council has approved total funding of over €33,000 under the Our Balbriggan Placemaking Fund to local groups to support ideas or plans for projects that will enhance resident and visitor experience of the town.
The response to the fund far outweighed expectations and a total of 11 projects have been awarded funding.
The fund was launched by Fingal County Council s Our Balbriggan Programme Office last October and was available to groups or individuals to support initiatives that enhance the town centre through new urban design, environment, arts and cultural initiatives.
The initiative is intended to help strengthen a sense of place and identity within the town, support opportunities for social connection and new activities in public places, strengthen the community through learning new skills and create opportunities for a healthier lifestyle. ....
