Annual community event celebrates summer harvest in Milwaukee’s Lindsay Heights Neighborhood Milwaukee, WI (July 28, 2021) After canceling last year’s festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Walnut Way Conservation Corp. today announced the return of its annual Harvest Day Festival, set for Saturday, September 11 from noon until 5:00 pm at Fondy Park located at 2200 W. Fond du Lac Avenue. Walnut Way will once again team up with the Fondy Farmers Market to celebrate the end of an abundant growing season by bringing the community together for a day of music, food, and resource sharing in Milwaukee’s Lindsay Heights neighborhood. Walnut Way establishes new Lindsay Heights headquarters for its landscaping business Share Walnut Way executive director Antonio Butts discussed the growth of Blue Skies Landscaping over the past 12 years. Walnut Way Conservation Corp. is converting a collection of four properties along West Fond du Lac Avenue in Milwaukee into the new headquarters for the organization’s workforce development arm, Blue Skies Landscaping. Leaders of the neighborhood nonprofit organization celebrated the social enterprise’s new home, located at 1414 W. Fond du Lac Ave. in the city’s Lindsay Heights neighborhood, with a flag-raising ceremony Tuesday. Blue Skies Landscaping, which was founded in 2012, provides landscaping, environmental and green infrastructure services in greater Milwaukee. Over the years, the organization has developed multiple pocket parks on city-owned properties, installed green infrastructure throughout the area and removed pavement and impermeable surf ....

The COVID-19 pandemic decimated travel across the globe, and Milwaukee’s first hostel was not immune to the effects. Cream City Hostel closed its doors earlier this year amidst the travel slowdown. But the building at 500 E. Center St. didn’t go dark. Bader Philanthropies is backing a new cooperative housing model built from the hostel’s infrastructure. The organization is providing a low-interest $450,000 loan to support the building’s conversion and retire existing debt. Milwaukee Area Cohousing is providing support on the conversion. ....
Walnut Way Conservation Corp. completes phase 2 of Innovations and Wellness Commons development Share Last updated on December 14th, 2020 at 02:31 pm Walnut Way Conservation Corp. leaders and supporters this week marked the completion of the second phase of the $3.3 million Innovations and Wellness Commons development in Milwaukee’s Lindsay Heights neighborhood. The Commons project is a 17,200-square-foot commercial mixed-use development at North 16th Street and West North Avenue that houses various health and wellness services and retail tenants. The project’s first phase, which was completed in 2015, included the 6,500-square-foot renovation of an existing historic building at 1615-1617 W. North Ave. and a 4,500-square-foot new addition. The building houses MCFI (Milwaukee Center for Independence), Fondy Food Center, and Walnut Way’s new social enterprise, Designaway apparel printing and maker’s space. ....
