College of Engineering Professor and Chair, Antonio Nanni, has been elected as vice president of the American Concrete Institute.
Antonio Nanni, professor and chair at the University of Miami College of Engineering, Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, has been elected vice president of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
“To say that I am humbled (and excited) by this opportunity to serve ACI as a VP and, possibly, as the president in two years’ time, is an understatement,” Nanni said. “I am committed to advance the cause of the Institute and, as importantly, contribute to improving the quality and sustainability of the built environment.” ....

Elon Musk, who heads the list of the top 10 richest people, has proposed building a tunnel underneath the Miami River to alleviate traffic gridlock. Engineers say it can be done, despite the challenges posed by Miami’s porous limestone. Architects say sustainable initiatives shouldn’t be abandoned.
When it opened in 1994, it was hailed as the greatest engineering feat of its time. The 31.5-mile Channel Tunnel, often called the ‘Chunnel’ for short, links southern England and northern France, carrying more than 10 million passengers and more than a million tons of freight each year. With 23.5 miles of the passageway running under the English Channel, the Chunnel is the world’s longest undersea tunnel.  ....
