College of Wooster, Ashland University host graduation for 2021 class


Seniors at the College of Wooster and Ashland University breathed a collective sigh of relief as commencement activities for the Class of 2021 were held Saturday at both schools.
More than 380 graduates participated in the in-person exercises, with families and guests taking part virtually at the College of Wooster’s 151st commencement at John Papp Stadium.  
A few members of the 2021 class shared their thoughts about graduating after a year of turmoil and the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
What are the challenges of graduating from college in 2021?
Kathryn Dunkelberger of Seattle, a music therapy major, said trying to figure out the state of music in an online world or in a socially distanced, masked format has been her biggest challenge. ....

In the past decade, the department has become a hub for race theory and a welcoming environment for a diverse group of young academics, mentored by those who have paved the way before them.

Philosopher William Fontaine earned tenure in the late 1950s. At that time, he became the first African American to formally do so at the University of Pennsylvania, breaking into a field of American academia typically reserved for white men. It was a first for the Ivy League. ....
