Reminder: Cascade Symphony Orchestra to virtually present 'Carmen' concert on March 8

The Cascade Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will present “Carmen,” its fifth virtual concert of the 2020-21 season, on Monday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. This online music program, like all previous CSO presentations this season, will be presented free of charge through the generosity of orchestra donors and patrons.
Because all in-person concerts for the season have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the symphony has produced four online shows – including one for children.
“Our first class music has gotten thousands of online views from within the community. This positive feedback from our patrons inspires our musicians and makes us proud of our achievements,” said CSO music director Michael Miropolsky, who curates the performances. “This incredible support shows how strong the bond is between us and our supporters.” ....

Summer fun
Fun could be headed back to Portland parks this summer.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and government restrictions, the Portland Parks & Recreation s summer parks programs were canceled in 2020. But, Commissioner Carmen Rubio and the City Council have been working on restoring funding for many things, including the summer programs.
If COVID-19 and government restrictions allow, we could see the return of:
• Free Lunch & Play: Serving more than 100,000 meals to alleviate hunger.
• Summer camps: Outdoor day camps, sports and art camps would be available at 20 locations. ....

a whopping 37 officers resign since July 2020.
I think this summer was really tough on officers, Lovell responded, referring to Portland s racial justice protests. It took its toll on people and maybe made them want to rethink next steps in their career. People are human, and they want to do their work and be appreciated and be supported. So that’s definitely a factor. Or
maybe they might not want to be associated with an organization who has zero interest in confronting its own systemic racism and brutality? (Ugh. I m giving them too much credit again, aren t I?)
