Cascade County officials: COVID-19 order enforcement hasn't changed


Cascade County law enforcement officials and the Cascade City-County Health Department (CCHD) said Thursday that there have been no changes in the way they enforce COVID-19 related mandates.
In March 2020, a stay-at-home order was issued when the pandemic first arrived in Montana. A statewide mask mandate was enacted in July 2020. Now, COVID-19 restrictions have begun to ease as the number of cases drops in Montana.
Throughout that series of events, the position of the Great Falls Police Department and the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office has stayed the same.
Law enforcement officers will not arrest citizens for non-compliance with public health directives, but they may charge people if their actions land on the wrong side of the law. ....

The Montana Veterans Affairs Health System holds a COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the Holiday Village Mall on Tuesday morning, February 9, 2021. The VA planned to vaccinate 500 veterans in the first of four vaccine clinics.
The Cascade County Board of Health moved to approve a mask mandate effective immediately at a special meeting held Wednesday night. The order includes several exceptions, including for children under five and for people maintaining social distance, among others. 
Cascade County implemented the mandate following Montana Gov. Gianforte s lifting of the statewide mandate last week. The county previously did not have a mask mandate but had followed the statewide directive.  ....

Montana adds 244 COVID cases Thursday, Cascade County reports 2


The state posted 244 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing Montana’s total to 98,100 confirmed reports.
Of the cumulative cases, 94,201 are recovered and 2,562 remain active. There are 109 people who are now hospitalized out of 4,484 total hospitalizations, according to the state website covid19.mt.gov.
Montana added three deaths since Wednesday, bringing the total to 1,337 fatalities related to the respiratory illness.
The state has administered 1,035,440 tests for the coronavirus, which is 6,120 more than Wednesday.
The first case of COVID-19 in Montana was reported on March 11.
Gallatin County topped the state on Thursday and added 36 new COVID-19 cases, or roughly 15% of the new cases reported that day. The county now has 247 active cases out of 11,959 total reports. Yellowstone County reported 34 new cases bringing it to 700 active cases, the most in the state.  ....

(UPDATE) We contacted the CCHD for clarification about what many people have said they are upset about, or don t fully understand - why the per capita spread benchmark was lowered from 25 per 100,000 to 10 per 100,000. Here is the response from the CCHD:
“What it boils down to, if you read the
Jan 21 Health Order on page 3, section 2A, is that the last health order does not specifically mention the mask mandate because we had no local mask order—we were just mirroring the Governor’s order at that time. Because we had no local mask order, there was no benchmark set for lifting it. ....
