Initiatives like ‘Greener at Asda Price’ are genuine, authentic and will make an actual difference Sustainability is no longer a niche trend reserved for a select audience. The impact of Covid has shone a bigger spotlight on sustainability issues, and, as we learned in The Grocer’s conference in March, nearly 50% of us have attributed an increased awareness to the pandemic. This has meant a focus on sustainability has now become a consumer expectation, with nearly every brand and industry realising they need to act and join in the fight in one way or another. By Ian Quinn2021-05-06T16:02:00+01:00 Source: Asda Commitments include the ‘Greener at Asda Price’ promise, which will make it more affordable for customers to shop sustainably Asda has published its first environmental, social and governance (ESG) report, setting out how it plans to help customers shop sustainably. The supermarket said the report reflected research among more than 3,000 customers to understand which ESG-related issues mattered most to them and would build on its Create Change for Better programme. Asda has appointed Havas London as its new creative advertising agency. The supermarket launched a review of its ad account in January and will now part ways with AMV. AMV had held the account since 2018 and last year launched a major new campaign bringing back the supermarket’s famous pocket tap campaign to publicise its £100m price cut campaign. Havas will take responsibility for the strategic development of the Asda and George brand and the supermarket’s CSR programme, starting with its September campaign. The deal also includes creative development and execution for the Asda brand. AMV had hoped to recapture Asda’s advertising magic with last year’s return of the campaign, which first featured in Asda’s adverts in 1977 and has starred the likes of Julie Walters, Richard Beckinsale and Michael Owen. ....
Iceland ranks worst for plastic use in new UK supermarket report Natasha Preskey Iceland has been ranked bottom in a new environmental report on supermarket plastic use. The research by Greenpeace and the Environmental Investigation Agency ranked the 10 major UK supermarkets on a range of factors including reduction in their plastic footprint, how much recycled material they use, transparency on plastic use and their commitment to improving. According to the report, the 10 major supermarkets put 896,853 tonnes of plastic packaging into the market in 2019, which is a drop of 1.6 per cent from the previous year but still a 1.2 per cent increase compared with 2017. ....
