IFJ 29 January 2021 India: Journalists harassed and attacked during farmer protest Several journalists from Indian media group iTV were threatened, heckled and physically assaulted by unidentified assailants during a Republic Day tractor rally in New Delhi on January 26. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and its Indian affiliate the National Union of Journalists – India (NUJ-I) condemn the attacks. Aishwarya Jain, Ajit Shrivastava, Priya Singh and Aditya Nair, working for the iTV-owned NewsX and India News outlets, suffered verbal abuse, pelting with stones and intimidation during the rally by members of the crowd. Jain was caught and beaten while Shrivastava was thrashed with sticks. ....
ITV Journalists attacked during farmers stir The Republic Day Tractor Rally by Farmer Unions witnessed an overturn after a section of the protestors entered Delhi and attempts were made to create a situation of chaos. Amid the violence that ensued, not only some of the protestors and police personnel suffered injuries, but journalists were also threatened, beaten and stopped from simply doing their duty. Four NewsX and India News journalists, namely Aishwarya Jain, Ajit Shrivastava, Priya Singh and Aditya Nair were threatened and attacked by unidentified anti-social elements while covering the protests. In a video message, Aishwarya can be seen saying the situation outside is not in control because stone pelting is happening inside Red Fort premise and the people who threatened them are also following them. Broadcasters federation condemns attacks on journalists covering tractor rally âAt least four journalists working for NewsX and India News were threatened and attacked.â 26 Jan, 2021 The News Broadcasters Federation, an association of 78 news channels in 14 languages, Tuesday condemned the attacks on mediapersons covering the tractor rally held by farmers to protest against the new farm laws. It noted that at least four broadcast journalists working for NewsX and India News were threatened and attacked by the protesters. Aishwarya Jain was held by the collar at the Red Fort and allegedly physically hit and made to leave the spotâ. Ajit Shrivastava was hit with sticks at Nangloi.
