Chef Ian Winslade is opening a modern Italian restaurant called Tre Vele in Sandy Springs next month. Together with his Mission + Market partners Jonathan Akly and Tony Akly, Winslade is turning the former Three Sheets building (6017 Sandy Springs Circle) into a destination for house-made pasta, pizza, and craft cocktails.
âIâm classically French trained, which is similar to Italian training in regard to understanding the basis of food, so this is a natural extension of where I come from,â Winslade says. âI donât want to be tied to a particular region or area. I just want to present well-made, modern Italian food.â

Italian restaurant and market Tre Vele, from Mission and Market chef Ian Winslade and brothers Ryan and Jonathan Akly, opens this summer in Sandy Springs at the City Walk complex. Tre Vele takes over the former Three Sheets restaurant and lounge, which the Akly family opened at City Walk in 2010.
Led in the kitchen by chef Giancarlo Ruiz (Storico Fresco), the menu for Tre Vele will feature classic and original takes on Italian dishes and handmade pastas, like cavatelli with lamb sugo and strozzapreti with vegan kale pesto, and entrees such as veal Milanese, braised oxtail with a red wine tomato sauce, and red snapper acqua pazza. Before moving to Atlanta, Ruiz lived in Florence, Italy, for 16 years and trained under a number of Italian chefs while working at restaurants throughout the city.
