Steuben revenge porn case appeal being heard by Indiana Supreme Court

INDIANAPOLIS â A Steuben County criminal case involving the unauthorized distribution of an intimate image of a woman will be heard on appeal by the Indiana Supreme Court on Thursday, June 24, beginning at 11 a.m.
The case stems from an incident that occurred in March 2020 when a Trine University student allegedly took a video of an intimate act between himself and another Trine student at a fraternity house, then showed the video to other individuals, court records say.
The student, Conner Katz, 22, Coldwater, Michigan, was charged in March 2020 with distribution of an intimate image, but the Class A misdemeanor case was dismissed on Oct. 2 by Magistrate Randy Coffey in Steuben Circuit Court on grounds that Indianaâs revenge porn law violated U.S. and Indiana constitutional rights to free speech. The university confirmed that Katz is still a student at Trine. ....

Angola woman critically injured in Steuben County crash

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, IN (WTVB) â An Angola woman was critically injured Tuesday morning when a semi-tractor trailer and a pickup truck collided on U.S. 20 and County Road 600 West in Steuben County.
The Steuben County Sheriffâs Office says the crash happened at 9:07 a.m. when a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by 26-year-old Raymond J. Parks of Kendallville, Indiana failed to yield at the intersection and was struck on the passenger side by the semi which was driven by 54-year-old Jose G. Fregoso of Zephyrhills, Florida.
The impact caused the Avalanche to roll over. 53-year-old Marion M. Pocock had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Angola and Fremont Fire Departments. ....

Police conducting school bus safety patrols

The Tri-County Traffic Safety Partnership in DeKalb, LaGrange and Steuben counties is ramping up enforcement this spring to protect students going to and from school, a news release said.
Over the next couple of months, officers will be positioned along bus stops and routes watching for stop-arm violations and unsafe driving behavior.
The overtime patrols are funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration through the stateâs Stop Arm Violation Enforcement (SAVE) program, which was developed by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute in 2019.
âDisregarding a school bus stop arm is a very dangerous and serious offense,â said Matt Kling of the Angola Police Department. âWe want students to arrive to school and return home safely, which is why weâre asking all motorists to drive cautiously around buses or face the consequences.â ....
