SAN FRANCISCO, CA Chocolatier Godiva became the latest victim of the pandemic, announcing plans to close its 128 North American stores, including seven locations in the Bay Area.
The international chocolatier announced the move Sunday less than two years after initiating a major push to open 2000 cafes worldwide, Business Insider reported. However, the pandemic stymied those plans as customers shifted their dining habits to take-out and their shopping online.
Godiva will keep its brick-and-mortar locations open through Valentine s Day, the busiest time of the year for Godiva sales. ....

Chocolatier Godiva is closing all of its Northern American stories, including seven locations around the Bay Area.
The mass closure affects 128 stores in the U.S. and Canada, although its outposts in Europe, the Middle East and China will remain open. The closures will be completed by March, as the stores are expected to stay open during the lucrative Valentine s Day season.
The news comes less than two years after Godiva s planned expansion of 2,000 cafes around the globe by 2025. Americans won t be short on Godiva chocolates, though. The products will continue to be sold online, in grocery stores and other retailers that carry their products. ....

Betty Taylor Has Left the Building

For the better part of 24 years, Betty Taylor spent every other Monday night at Eugene City Council meetings. Whether they were held at the former Eugene City Hall, Lane County’s Harris Hall or virtually on Zoom, Taylor was there.
Now 95 years old, Taylor chose to step down and not seek re-election in 2020. Newer Ward 2 resident Matt Keating was elected to take over the position, and was not endorsed by Taylor. He was sworn into office in early January. Reflecting on her six-term City Council career the longest one in Eugene history Taylor says there were good moments and accomplishments, but also issues the council still needs to work on. ....
