Our Lady of Grace Church Vandalized – Everett Independent

A stained glass window was vandalized and broken out earlier this month when neighborhood youths allegedly threw rocks at the church and its windows – busting an irreplaceable, old stained glass window. On Saturday, May 8, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church was vandalized when neighborhood youth hurled large rocks through a large, beautiful stain glass window located in the working sacristy on the side of the church. This occurred just prior to the annual Confirmation Mass presided by Bishop Mark O’Connell. Luckily no one inside the church was injured. Everett Police responded immediately and have been helpful with an investigation of the incident.

Everett police share photos of man suspected of church vandalism

Updated: 7:49 PM EDT May 3, 2021 Everett police are attempting to identify a man who is suspected of committing numerous acts of vandalism in the city, including at a local church.Last Wednesday, leaders at Zion Baptist Ministries announced that a 7-foot cross that was in front of the church was pulled out of the ground and thrown down the street.“It’s unfortunate there are hate crimes happening because of one’s religion, one’s faith. But if we work together as a community, let’s just start crying out, stop the hate,” said Zion Church Ministries Bishop Robert G. Brown.Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria called the act of vandalism at Zion Baptist Ministries a hate crime.“As mayor, I’m repulsed and distraught that someone would intentionally vandalize a religious organization in our community. The bishop said he had “a feeling of disbelief that somebody would actually do that.” Authorities have been investigating the vandalism at the church which has a largely Black congregation as a possible hate crime. The incident left Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria outraged. “This was not an accident but a hate crime against Zion Ministries and their community,” the mayor said on social media. “As mayor, I’m repulsed and distraught that someone would intentionally vandalize a religious organization in our community. There is absolutely no room for any hate in Everett.” The mayor reiterated the following day that there is no room for hate in the Everett community.
