Vanderbilt celebrated its “bedrock principle” of free speech through a series of panels and discussions Oct. 10–17 during the university’s inaugural celebration of national Free Speech Week.
María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Art, has been awarded a 2023 MacArthur Fellowship for her work exploring personal and collective histories across the Caribbean.
Vanderbilt University and the Freedom Forum will expand their longstanding relationship, and the John Seigenthaler Center on the university’s campus will serve as the physical home of the Dialogue Vanderbilt initiative including The Vanderbilt Project on Unity and American Democracy, The Future of Free Speech Project and the Open Dialogue Visiting Fellows Program.
The Wond’ry is hosting TN Maker Fest on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. This free, family-friendly event will feature an incredible gathering of “makers” who will show off their hobbies, projects, experiments and creations.
The Office of the Chancellor will launch the Lecture Series on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats with an online address by former Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper on Tuesday, Sept. 26. A conversation moderated by Chancellor Daniel Diermeier will follow.
