Calgary, Canada – Switzerland retained their world title after defeating RCF in the LGT World Women’s Curling Championship 2021 gold medal game on Sunday (9 May) afternoon in the WinSport Arena at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.
Switzerland skipped by Silvana Tirinzoni, with fourth player, Alina Paetz, second Esther Neuenschwander, lead Melanie Barbezat, and supported by alternate Carole Howald and coach Pierre Charette have now won six of the last nine World Women’s titles.
In the first end, RCF, skipped by Alina Kovaleva with third Julia Portunova, second Galina Arsenkina, lead Ekaterina Kuzmina and supported by alternate Maria Komarova and coach Sergei Belanov were sitting two counters. After a hit-and-roll by Kovaleva, Switzerland’s fourth player, Alina Paetz was forced to play a hit-and-stay for the single point to open the scoring. ....

Curling: Youth Olympic Games athlete quota increased, and event programme changes announced

The International Olympic Committee have announced a change to curling competitions in the Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 event programme while also increasing the athlete quota for the Games.
The Mixed National Olympic Committee (NOC) Mixed Doubles competition where athletes from different NOC s formed mixed doubles pairs has been replaced with a traditional Mixed Doubles competition.
With these changes, curling will move to a two-wave approach for the athletes. The two-wave system allows the athletes from the Mixed Team event to return home at the conclusion of the competition. Then, prior to the beginning of the Mixed Doubles competition, athletes competing in that event will begin arriving at the Games. ....
