Oppressive levels of coverage we have. i also want to thank my colleagues in public health england who have, with other scientists across the country been analysing data on the delta variant so we can really inform ourselves on how best to take forward the road map. our own data now shows clearly that the vaccine protects against the delta variant, particularly against hospitalisations and serious complications, with over 90% protection from two doses of either vaccine. the message is clear that people need to come forward and get their second dose, and theirfirst dose, obviously, but the second dose too. it is important to complete the course. i would like to take the opportunity to remind people there are other effective life saving vaccines available on the nhs. during lockdown and the pandemic there has been some drop off in the uptake of some of those vaccines so i think this is an opportunity as we ....
Come out of this pandemic for people to think again about the vaccines they might have missed out on and come forward. in particular, people leaving school need to make sure they have a meningitis jack before they have a meningitis jack before they go either to university or start work in the summer. people in their 70s might have missed out on a shingles vaccine so they should come forward this winter. we know that some babies are behind on their six in one and mmr vaccine and it s important for them to catch up as well. the school immunisation programmes in particular have been struggling because schools have been closed so much so school immunisation teams are doing a brilliantjob in trying to reschedule appointments so people can get some of those life saving vaccines like the hpv vaccine that protects against cervical cancer. i strongly encourage people who have missed out for whatever reason to make sure they get an appointment and come forward. looking ahead to ....
His whole press conference was all about doing everything they can to persuade people to come forward and to come forward quickly. maw; to come forward quickly. many thanks. let s to come forward quickly. many thanks. let s speak to come forward quickly. many thanks. let s speak now - to come forward quickly. many thanks. let s speak now to - to come forward quickly. many thanks. let s speak now to dr| to come forward quickly. many thanks. let s speak now to dr raghib ali, let s speak to the dr raghib ali, who s a clinical epidemiologist ali, clinical epidemiologist at the university of cambridge. what did you make of what you heard? i think overall most of what we heard was very encouraging. the very large reductions in deaths and hospitalisations from the vaccines, the fact they are as effective against the delta variant and a real difference is the very eye haptic is made to the nhs and everyone in the country, so i think overall the message was positive, but there are areas of s ....
In scotland, so sometimes these figures go up for a good reason, as well as other reissues. i think the next slide if we go on shows what s happening to hospitalisations. you can see the number of hospitalisations is rising but at a very much slower rate than we are seeing four cases. so this is showing us the evidence that the vaccine is working and is breaking the link between cases of infection and hospitalisations. if we move on to the third graph, which shows the numbers of deaths, well, although every death is a terrible, terrible tragedy, the numbers are so small on this graph that you can t see any increase. it again suggests that the vaccination programme is really helping to prevent severe illness and hospitalisation and death from covid. the final slide is perhaps ....
I would urge everyone watching, if you are over 40, come forward, and have your second jab, take the opportunity to get that second jab early. you can do that by going online at the national booking service, or by calling 119. we have seen phenomenal uptake and enthusiasm for our vaccination programme so far. the uk has one of the highest rates of vaccine confidence in the world. nine out of ten people of all adults say they have either taken the vaccine or that they want to take the vaccine. it s something we can all be proud of. but it is no accident, ladies and gentlemen. we got here because we have actively, and nikki will be ....
