Fendler FALMOUTH – As his light was dimmed by dementia, Ryan Fendler raged briefly, and then welcomed death peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice Home in Scarborough, on April 30, 2021, at age 94. His daughter Nancy and son Michael were with him. Several grandchildren and friends were able to visit him in his last hours.Ryan grew up in a large family in Rye, N.Y., and spent several summers of his youth in Newport, Maine. He was the twin brother of Donn Fendler who famously survived being lost on Mt. Katahdin for nine days in 1939 when they were 12. Ryan was always proud to be the twin who didn’t get lost. He received some of his secondary school education at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Maine and served in the Navy during WWII. He resumed his education after the war, met Ba

Share Owner Vy Phan serves a customer at Vy Banh Mi food truck in Portland on a recent April day. The crop of new spring food trucks is particularly bountiful this year. By April, according to Portland city records, 21 food trucks had been licensed or renewed their licenses, with another 11 licenses pending. On top of that, nearly 15 newcomers have announced plans to hit the road this summer, serving tacos, fish and chips, vegan comfort food, lobster rolls, burritos and banh mi. That’s nearly 50 food trucks that will be roaming the Greater Portland area this summer. Why so many?
