Wintersville Council to mull salt purchase | News, Sports, Jobs

SALT ON COUNCIL TABLE — On Thursday Wintersville Council members learned they will consider the purchase of road salt for the 2021-22 winter at their next regular meeting.

WINTERSVILLE Wintersville Council is expected to consider its road salt purchase for the 2021-22 winter when it meets again at 7 p.m. April 1.
On Thursday Village Administrator Walter Ziemba advised council about 120 tons remain of 1,320 tons ordered for this winter.
Following the meeting, Mayor Bob Gale said the village usually orders about 1,500 tons but scaled back the order for this year after experiencing overall milder winters in recent years. ....

PARKING ISSUE — Resident Dale Jones addressed Wintersville Council about its ordinance against parking on snow-covered roadways Thursday.

WINTERSVILLE Wintersville Council heard Thursday from two residents who questioned a village ordinance against parking on snow-covered roads.
The ordinance states residents must move their vehicles into driveways between Nov. 1 and March 15, when snow falls, to accommodate village crews plowing snow from the often narrow streets or face a fine not less than $25.
It states a street committee may consider exceptions, such as residences that have no driveways or steep ones.
Resident Christine Fenske told council she has lived on Meadow Road for 16 years and not received a ticket for parking on the road. Fenske said there’s not room in her driveway for the three vehicles owned by her family. ....

STEUBENVILLE – A residence at 539 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, was destroyed by fire, Monday.
Fire Chief Carlo Capaldi said the call came in around 9 p.m. He said the structure was occupied, though only one individual was in the building at the time.
“By the time the first truck got there, the first floor was pretty much fully involved,” Capaldi said. “There was heavy smoke coming out of the second floor, and shortly after that the whole structure was fully involved in fire.”
Capaldi said crews were at the scene “until almost 2 a.m., putting out hot spots.”
“The roof and the second floor collapsed onto the first, making it hard to put out all the hot spots under everything,” he added. “It’s still smoldering.” ....

WINTERSVILLE Upcoming gas line replacements, a village ordinance against parking on snow-covered streets were among business and a handful of police matters were among business before Wintersville Council on Thursday.
Village Administrator Walt Ziemba said crews with Columbia Gas will be replacing gas lines in the Canton Road area from the Kroger store north to Meadow Road and starting with Springdale Avenue on Jan. 18. ....
