WINTERSVILLE Wintersville joined other local communities undergoing major transitions when Council President Robbie Martin was sworn in as interim mayor.
The action came on Friday following the resignation in April of Bob Gale, who held the position for 13 years.
Martin also is no stranger to the village.
A lifelong Wintersville resident, he has served on council for close to 20 years, during which he has been council president 10 years, often alternating with Councilman Bob Merriman.

WINTERSVILLE Wintersville Council is expected to consider its road salt purchase for the 2021-22 winter when it meets again at 7 p.m. April 1.
On Thursday Village Administrator Walter Ziemba advised council about 120 tons remain of 1,320 tons ordered for this winter.
Following the meeting, Mayor Bob Gale said the village usually orders about 1,500 tons but scaled back the order for this year after experiencing overall milder winters in recent years.

WINTERSVILLE Upcoming gas line replacements, use of federal funds for COVID-19 relief and final approval of water rate increases were among matters before Wintersville Council on Thursday.
Village Administrator Walter Ziemba told council Columbia Gas officials have advised the company will be replacing about 1,700 feet of gas line along Canton Road from the Kroger store north to Meadow Road and along side streets in that area early next year.
He said the company will be testing Meadow Road itself to determine whether a line there will be replaced.
Ziemba said Columbia Gas hasn’t specified a date at this time, saying only the work is slated for the first quarter of 2021, pending suitable weather.
