PFAS cause consumption limits for fish from Madison waterways


State officials are recommending that those fishing in the lakes and rivers of Madison limit their consumption of certain types of fish, due to high levels of forever chemicals in the water. 
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services issued new guidelines Wednesday on how many fish can be consumed if harvested from Starkweather Creek, Lake Monona, Wingra Creek, Lake Waubesa, Upper and Lower Mud Lakes, Lake Kegonsa and the downstream portion of the Yahara River to where it meets the Rock River.  The advisories do not impact fish caught in Lakes Mendora or Wingra ....

Wardens Amie Egstad, of Bayfield, had received a report of a tribal member harassing/killing a seagull on Lake Superior. The information was turned over to a tribal warden who interviewed the person and enforcement action was taken.
Wardens Matthew Koshollek, of Drummond, and Phil Brown, of Iron River, took enforcement action against a crossbow hunter after he admitted to shooting a large 11-point buck in September 2020 and then tagging the deer with the license of a relative. The hunter then shot another buck with his crossbow in November 2020.
Wardens Koshollek and Brown took enforcement action against a North Dakota resident after she admitted to shooting a buck without having a license during the 2020 archery season in Bayfield County. The hunter admitted to North Dakota wardens she shot the buck with a crossbow and then bought her license the next day. The hunter was also found to have shot a buck in Wisconsin ....

Final days to vote in-person absentee for Tuesday's spring primary

MADISON, Wis. The City of Madison Clerk’s office says nearly 36% of absentee ballots for Tuesday’s spring primary election have been returned so far.
In an absentee voting update Friday morning, the office says it’s issued 25,937 absentee ballots for the February 16th primary. Of those, 9,313 have been returned. An additional 383 people have voted in-person absentee ahead of Tuesday’s election.
In Madison, the last day to vote in-person absentee is Saturday, February 13th, but Friday is the last day you can register at the polls while voting absentee voters will need to already be registered to vote in-person absentee on Saturday. However, voters will be able to register at the polls on Tuesday. ....
