Because it comes about this time every day, 11 00 a. M. Eastern, we get an update from the national Hurricane Center. And well wait to see what they say about the massive Hurricane Milton that caused 6 Million people to evacuate in its path in the state of florida. The life threatening storm is now moving toward floridas Gulf Coast. Forecasters say it will slam into that peninsula. Late tonight or into the early hours of tomorrow. What they are looking at is exactly where it will hit. They arent saying it is not going to hit. Some forecasters are saying is Storm Surge could be higher than what it was in Hurricane Katrina which left more than 1,300 people dead. The evacuations, though, this time are the benefit of what we learned, we pray, from katrina. So many people moving out of the way. Not everybody, but most. weather conditions are deteriorating severely. all morning long we are feeling these powerful gusts of wind lashing us. it sounds like a jet engine where we are right now, the city of freeport. you have to imagine what it s like for so many bohemians. you spend the entire night listening to the sound, the wind roaring past. this is not the worst of it. hours from now when the eye is expected to pass over grand bahama later today, but for the moment this storm is stalled out over us. it is causing devastating damage. we ve already seen in other parts of the bahamas how it s torn off roofs. how it has flipped cars and how it has completely submerged whole neighborhoods. it is expected to bring a storm surge here of over 20 feet. of course, on this island the highest point is 30 feet. so it is a real danger going to
harvey and offers a firsthand glimpse into how millions of americans are coping in the path of this monster storm. our colleague, bryan llenas, has been monitoring it all. reporter: mike, you know, this is the first major hurricane since 2005 which means it s the first major hurricane in the social media era if you think about it. there was no instagram or twitter back in 2005. so over the last 24 hours, folks have been giving us their unique perspective like this brand new video out of cypress, texas, showing a tornado just outside of houston this afternoon. the video is shot by kendall and chris haines, there are reports of multiple tornadoes touching down in that county today. now, this incredible video was tweeted by shelby shaw in cuero, texas. the roof is ripped off her hotel which then forced a mandatory evacuation of that hotel during the first wave of storm. good news is she and her pups are safe. now, this video was tweeted by alex from north padre island. it was shot last
instagram and twitter, today we have been monitoring social media all day to give us firsthand accounts of how it has been affecting texas. we ll begin with the twitter video. this was taken last night around 6:30 p.m. the video lashing, the wind lashing even a canopy. you can see the search getting closer and closer to the row. that was just outside the house in north padre island. this video from corpus christi texas taken from at as hurricane harvey was making landfall. this video was taken from the apartment building and appear outside the home. that was torn apart from the storm. now onto facebook where people
