Former council president Bruce Harrell announces run for Seattle mayor

Former City Council member Bruce Harrell announced his bid today with some unusual approaches to some of the city’s most difficult problems.
Harrell was interim mayor for a few days in 2017 when Ed Murray resigned.
Now he says he wants to lead a Seattle revival.
“Look at what Seattle has become,” he said at his news conference.
Harrell spent 12 years on the City Council before declining to run for reelection in 2019.
Now he sees a city whose economy has been battered by the pandemic and struggling in the face of a reckoning for racial justice a process too often punctuated by violence. ....

SEATTLE - Seattle City Council President Lorena González is running for mayor.
The at-large council member made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday morning:
To a first-generation American, daughter of migrant farm workers who grew up working the cherry orchards of central Washington, Seattle was my dream, González said in a video announcing her candidacy.

After Mayor Jenny Durkan announced her plan to peace out after one term, everyone and their many-gendered mothers placed little bets on which Seattle City Council member might seek to fill the role. Well, everyone who bet Council President Lorena Gonzalez would step up can now cash in their winnings, because now she has officially entered the 2021 mayoral race.
