from what defines the school houses. on their first day of the new school, minnijean brown-trickey and eight other black kids found an angry mob and the national guard locking the school house door. it was 1957 in little rock, arkansas. and teenagers were trying to integrate little rock central high school. they tried three different times over the course of a month. commander of the division was asked to delay the entrance of the negroes for a general walker decided, no, it had to be done. finally, backed by 1200 soldiers, they made it inside for their first full day of class. minnijean brown-trickey and her friends were known as the little rock nine, and we remember them today as heroes. at the time, they were just kids, trying to learn amid a torrent of abuse and white students call the names, spat on them, threw at them, even sprayed them with acid. one day, a white girl hit minnijean in the head with a purse and minnijean responded
