Whilst Australia is gradually edging its way towards the cold months of winter, that hasn't stopped the heat from having likely its last hurrah - with temperatures set to spike today across parts of the south.
Warm northerly winds moving ahead of a low-pressure trough will draw a warmer airmass down across the southeast, bringing temperatures that those summer lovers among us will be missing over the next few months.
Today has the potential to be the warmest day since the end of March in Adelaide, with temperatures around 5-7 degrees warmer than average. Warmth will also peak in Melbourne today, where temperatures could reach the 20's, around 5 degrees warmer than climate.
Warmth will then push into NSW toward the end of the working week, when a cold front will begin to cross the south, bringing an end to the late season warmth and a reminder that winter is very much around the corner.
