Im a historian and i also have the honor of being the president of Gratz College in greater philadelphia and i am the symposium organizer for this symposium on reconstruction. Were about to begin our next session, and our next session deals with issues of public understanding in the modern period in reconstruction, and we have two speakers this morning. We have Vernon Burton whos from clemson university, and we have brook thomas who is from the university of california at irvine. Both of them are stunningly important scholars in this world. Capitol historical societys annual history symposium entitled reconstruction and the long reconstruction, 150 years toward freedom. Im the societys chief historian. You can call me chuck. The stabbing hammed just before 2 00 when dozens of students were inside the dining hall economy common air. Students and faculty got the Emergency Alert to shelter in place. We look over and hes sitting at a chair and they have all these like napkins taped to him trying to stop bleeding and theres cop cars everywhere. Shawnette what do you see . Reporter well it has been a long day a long evening for firefighters the fire is under control but take look behind me. You can see that crews are still spraying water working on putting out some hot spots. This fire took about 30 pieces of equipment and more than 100 firefighters to tackle it. It wasnt that bad when weenies came outside. It was only in one apartment. I dont understand why its like this now.
