The holiest of all holidays, 420, is coming up sometime soon, but we couldn t tell you exactly in how many days. Some of us have been celebrating early since last April 21, to be exact so our sense of time is a bit warped. We did put our time to good use, however, by coming up with a list of things to do in Dallas, or wherever your strain takes you.
1. Imagine Ricardo Paniagua’s geometric mural in the West Village is a giant Magic Eye puzzle and try to find the hidden image.
2. Take a nap by snuggling up with the giant teddy bear statues in Lakeside Park.
There was a time long, long ago when the world didn t have a magical cloud that stores every file they own.
Data had to be stored on hard drives or something called a floppy disk, a form of hard copy storage in which small plastic discs, covered in magnetic material with concentric rings, held various files. People used them to organize their important tax records, shareware games and the romantic sci-fi novella they swore they d finish but never did. Way back in the mid 90s when I was 12 or 13, I was an AOL script kiddie, says Corey Hyden, the owner of the Free Play Arcade chain. You weren t a real hacker but you thought you were. You d type where every other letter was capital and go into the chat rooms and thought you were really cool. As part of that, they have these floppy disk trades and you would offer to trade some that had some kind of hacker software or tips and tricks for hacking.

Over the last several years, the Nigerian-born Onifadé has gradually carved out a niche as one of Dallas’ most revered and original artists. His solo show
Surreal Figures, which is on display through March 27, marks the first time the gallery SITE131 has devoted its entire space to a single artist. Onifadé s orb-like figures are representations of Black emotion and experience, with each painting telling a powerful story about his time in war-torn Africa. For this show, the preternaturally cheerful artist is showing a series of paintings (many of which are new creations) that balance Black joy with pain, sorrow and triumph. He’s cataloging his community’s history, one painting at a time.
Family Guy, the Dunder Whiplin [sic] headquarters for its tribute to
Harry Potter book and film canon.
The timing also couldn t be better for a
Breaking Bad pop-up, Schanbaum wrote on the bar s Facebook page.
“We’ve received a ton of requests for another pop up at The Whippersnapper, Schanbaum wrote. The previous themes have had overwhelming success and we think it would be nice to start 2021 off on a positive note…. While maintaining a safe atmosphere during our current Covid environment. This theme works well considering we always encourage our guests to dress up in costume, but this time the mask is required as it is in all chemical cook labs.”
