Macomb Police identify person killed, suspect in weekend shooting

Macomb, Ill.- The Macomb Police Department has identified the person killed, as well as the suspect in a weekend shooting. According to a news release, Macomb police responded to a call of shots fired at an off-campus party in the 500 block of North Johnson Street at about 1:55 AM Saturday. Police believe that an altercation began and gunfire erupted as a result. Ten people were wounded, six of them being Western Illinois University Students, and transported to McDonough District Hospital. 26-year-old Jerman Beathea of Chicago died as a result of gunshot wounds. 23-year-old Donell Williams of Macomb was identified as the suspect. Williams was arrested while in possession of a firearm, as well as a felony amount of drugs which led to the armed violence charge. Police say that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming and additional arrests may be made. ....

One person dead, several injured in Macomb shooting

Macomb, Ill.- One person was killed and several others were injured in a shooting incident early Saturday, March 25th in Macomb. According to a news release, Macomb police responded to a call of shots fired at an off-campus party in the 500 block of North Johnson Street at about 1:55 AM Saturday. Police believe that an altercation began and gunfire erupted as a result. Ten people were wounded, six of them being Western Illinois University Students, and transported to McDonough District Hospital. One person was pronounced deceased at the crime scene. Police have yet to reveal the deceased's identity, but police say they are not a Western Illinois student. Macomb police were able to identify a person if interest in the case, who has been arrested and charged with Armed Violence. ....

Cureus | Association Between Obesity and Self-Reported Depression Among Female University Students in the United States

Aim: To determine the relationship between obesity and depression among female undergraduate students at Western Illinois University (WIU), Macomb, Illinois.

Methods: A cross-sectional study using self-reported questionnaires were conducted between August 15, 2019, and December 15, 2019. A cohort of 434 female undergraduate students was retrieved from the study. We determined the association between self-reported diagnosis of depression within the last year and body mass index (BMI) among female students.

Results: The prevalence of depression among female undergraduates at WIU was 33.2%. Obese and overweight female undergraduate students had a higher likelihood of being diagnosed with depression than students with normal BMI (reference), overweight (OR= 1.91; 95% CI 1.11-3.31), obese (OR= 2.20; 95% CI 1.30-3.80). Latino and black students were less likely to report depression than white students, Latino (OR=0.37 95% CI 0.15-0.92), and Black (OR= 0.40; 95% CI 0.18-0. ....
