The 2023-24 school year has officially begun as Colorado County High School schools all around the area open their doors for students to return. With Weimar High School and Rice Consolidated High School returning on Aug. 9 and Columbus High School returning on Aug. 10, schools take their official first day as they begin another school year.
Panthers sweep Fredericksburg in bi-district playoffs, give Cavazos 100th career win
(Geronimo) – Navarro gave head baseball coach Kris Cavazos his 100th career win with a 3-1 road triumph over Fredericksburg on Friday in the first game of their 4A bi-district playoff series, and the Panthers completed the 2-0 sweep with a 4-1 home win on Saturday in Geromino.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1 when Tristan Brashears singled in Sam Muniga and Jaxen Monkerud drove in Reece Rojas with a groundout.
Aden Supak scored Kaden Monkerud’s courtesy runner Hunter Monroe with a two-out RBI single to make it 3-0 in the top of the fourth, and the Battlin’ Billies scored their only run on an error in the bottom half of the frame.

Howard J. Raabe, 93, passed away peacefully on Mar. 14.
He was born the fourth of 11 children on July 25, 1927 to William and Louise Theresa Tipp Raabe on the family farm southeast of Weimar.
He is survived by his wife Molly, brother David Raabe, sisters Faye Raabe Stech and Esther Raabe Harrison, son Wesley Raabe and daughter-in-law Natalie, daughter Nancy Raabe and son-in-law Robert Spinneweber.
Grandchildren are Kelsey and Sidney Raabe and Kate and Julia Spinneweber and numerous nieces and nephews.
Howard graduated from Weimar High School and entered the US Army in Aug. 30, 1945 and was discharged honorably on June 9, 1950.
During his service between Aug. 28, 1946 and Jan. 7, 1947 he was a member of the Honor Guard to General Douglas MacArthur.
