Webster parents air several grievances in heated school board meeting

WEBSTER, N.Y. (WHEC) Webster parents say they are fed up for several reasons.
Exactly one week ago Thursday, Webster’s Superintendent announced his retirement. A former basketball coach filed a federal lawsuit against the district. Parents also want their kids back in class.
Thursday night things almost got out of hand, police had to be called in to calm everyone down.
These parents continue to seek answers as to why neighboring school districts not only had a reopening plan in place, but many of them have already returned to in-person classes.

Webster NY school board meeting gets heated. Here's what happened

Parents yelled at board members. Police officers were summoned. Some questions were answered.
In what was scheduled as a budget hearing, parents repeatedly yelled their frustrations over the board members and the board ultimately opted to allow time for residents to speak after the public hearing on the district s 2021-22 school budget.
My children deserve better, one woman yelled over the crowd gathered at the district office at Spry Middle School in Webster.

One Pittsford 4th grade lesson said slaves took 'trip' to America and 'agreed' to work

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC) Tuesday, the Pittsford Central School District pulled a worksheet the district says was used in one 4th grade class on one day in January.
The district shared a photo of the worksheet. It talks about the slaves trip to America and that they agreed to work for colonialists.
Pittsford Superintendent Michael Pero says a parent alerted his office to this lesson plan Tuesday.
The worksheet was in no way an accurate depiction of slavery during Colonial Times and was highly insensitive in tone, Pero said in a statement. We immediately met with the staff members involved in this lesson and have taken steps to remedy the situation. ....

POTSDAM SUNY Potsdam alumni from across the country are sharing their words of encouragement with current students as they enter finals week to close out the Fall 2020 semester. The campus transitioned to a virtual format for the end of the semester, as most students returned home at Thanksgiving break.
From Hollywood to the North Country, SUNY Potsdam graduates representing a broad array of careers from technology to education to music business sent in their well wishes to show their support for students at their alma mater.
I know this has been a tough year, but if you can survive Potsdam in the winter, you can survive 2020, said Chuck Lorre 74, the creator and executive producer of hit shows like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men. ....
