at the age of 87. welcome to our viewers on pbs in america and around the globe. a jury in the us state of minnesota has found a white former police officer guilty of manslaughter for the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man. the prosecution argued that kimberley potter had shown culpable negligence when she killed daunte wright during a routine traffic check in april. the jury was shown bodycam footage, stopping short of the moment when the victim died. taser, taser, taser! kimberly potter told the court she thought she d drawn her taser, rather than her handgun, when she shot mr wright in the chest. outside the court, his mother, katie wright, gave her reaction to the verdict. the moment that we heard guilty on manslaughter one emotions, every single emotion that you could imaginejust running through your body at that moment. i kind of let out a yelp, because it was build up in anticipation of what was to come while we were waiting for the last few days. and now we ve

mike, good evening to you. after more than 7 hours of deliberations, 9 jury of six men and six women found kim potter guilty of both first second degree man slaughter. inside the courtroom the former brooklyn center police officer was stoick and showed almost no emotion as the verdict was announced and she learned her fate. we, the jury, on the charge of manslaughter in the first degree, while committing a misdemeanor, on or about april 11, 2021, in the hennepin county, state of minnesota find the defendant guilty. [chanting guilty] outside the courthouse, a crowd erupted in cheers as the verdict was announced and as word spread that the jury found potter was reckless and culpaably negligent when she shot daunte wright with her gun instead of her taser. wright s mother was sobbing as the verdict was read and described the flood of emotion as she heard the jury s decision. the moment we heard guilty on the manslaughter one, emotions, every single emotion that you could
live in just about 30 minutes. jurors have been deliberating now for four days. our adrienne broaddus joins us from minneapolis. she s been covering the entirety of this trial. i think the key question we all have is, what do they mean, a trial outcome? they re not saying verdict. reporter: that s the release from the hennepin county court here, and that is the big question. what is the meaning behind trial outcome ? a lot of people could suspect what it means, but here, we re not going to do that. we re going to stick with what they told us, that they will read that trial outcome on the record between 1:30 central time and 2:00 p.m. so as you mentioned, poppy, within the next 30 minutes or so. this, after this 12-panel jury deliberated more than 25 hours. earlier in the week, there was a big question from members of the jury. they wanted guidance. they asked the court, what steps they should take and how long should they continue to deliberate if they could not reach a co
