Wayne County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow says there will be six contested races in the upcoming June primary election, all on the Republican side. She held a lottery yesterday morning to determine their placement on the ballot; in order, Crystal Ellis and Yvette Anderson have filed for Treasurer; Andy Glover and Randy Hedrick for District 2 on the County Board; Roy Estheimer, Eddie Barbre, and Brandon Bittles for District 3; Joshua Isle, Matt Shreve, and Jeremy Witter for District 5; Bill Bruce and Vern Hutson for District 6; and Gene Kollak, Steven Troyer, and Shane Neuman in District 7. Estheimer, Hutson, Kollak, and Neuman are incumbents. The primary election this year will be June 28th. Residents will be able to seek vote-by-mail ballots between March 30th and June 23rd, and in-person early voting will begin May 19th. Wayne County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow says the winner of the race for Fairfield Second Ward Alderperson will be determined by chance. Per the State Board of Elections, Woodrow will call Larry Vest, Angel Maguire, and Clifford Reever to her office, likely next week, and a courthouse official not in the County Clerk’s Office will pick the winning name from a hat. The Wayne County Board will meet tonight at 7 in the upstairs courtroom of the Wayne County Courthouse. It is scheduled to enter executive session to discuss the purchase, lease, or acquisition of real property, though no action is expected on a decision on moving or not from the courthouse. It is expected to renovate areas of the courthouse, including work on drainage and tuck-pointing.

Headlines for Monday, February 22nd

Grayville resident Brooks T. Bube was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery Friday night in Grayville after a stabbing incident. Grayville police say Joseph R. Wampler was stabbed in the back of the head, right index finger, and right arm during an altercation. He was treated on scene by the responding officer and Edwards County EMS before being Air Evaced to a hospital. Bube was taken to the White County Jail. 24-year-old Nelson L. Greenman and 21-year-old Austin P. Frazier were booked in the Wayne County Jail Saturday night. Greenman was arrested on a host of charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of altered registration. Frazier was wanted on a Wayne County warrant for resisting or obstructing a peace officer. Both were held, pending the posting of bond.
