THE EARLY MORNING FLAG RAISING â This year s Girl Scout Day Camp was held at Camp Molly Lauman in Scioto County the week of June 4 through June 8. HEAD START DENTAL EXAM IT WON T HURT â This is what Dr. James P. Henahan, DDS, seem to be telling one of his young head start patients during a dental checkup at East Elementary School in Waverly. Dr. Henahan, who works out of the Dental Health Division of the Ohio Department of Heath, has been working the Waverly Head Start program for the past three weeks, giving all 110 students a dental checkup as well as a fluoride treatment. Head Start Director John Boyer said the dental project also includes an educational program on dental health. (Staff photo). ....
WHS BAND WINS TROPHY WINS TROPHY - On Friday, June 15, the Waverly High School Marching Band travelled to Pomeroy, Ohio and participated in the Big Bend Regatta Parade. The large parade moved from Middleport, Ohio to Pomeroy with the parade stretching three miles along the Ohio River. In addition to many floats, fire units, civic groups, and commercial displays, there were approximately 24 bands and several marching units. The bands competed in three classes, depending on school size. The Waverly High School Band received a fourth place trophy in their class. Congratulations band! WINS 4-H FRUIT SALESMANSHIP TOP SALEMAN - Ray Perkins, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Perkins, 214 N. High Street, Waverly was awarded a $25 check for winning the 1973 Spring 4-H Fruit Salesmanship Contest. Here Ray is receiving his check from Mrs. Norma Brown of the 4-H Advisory Committee. Ray sold 30 crates of rangs (oranges?) and grapefruit for his 4-H Club. He is a member of the Levis and Lace 4-H Horse Club. His advisors are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Perkins. When asked about his salesmanship ability, Ray had this to say, It s hard to sell to a new customer, but once they have tried the fruit, it s easy to sell. Ray sold his fruit by telephone, door to door, and to the customers coming to his father s laundromat. We congratulate Ray on his success and hope he has an enjoyable time spending his $25 reward. ....
