in the united states and around the world. i m john vause at cnn s world headquarters. in atlanta. it seems hurricane it is not done yet. in florida with a rising death toll on ongoing rescues, and looking like a wall zone. this color storm is gaining strength right now a category one, bearing down on charleston, south carolina, with all expected later friday. the death toll in florida stands at 19. a number of which is almost certain to rise in the coming days. the u.s. president on thursday warning of a substantial loss of life for me and. which one official has described as likely the biggest natural disaster the state has ever seen. and that is triggered the biggest disaster response in florida s history. tens of thousands of emergency workers deployed statewide. at this hour, almost 2.2 million homes and businesses remain without electricity. large areas of the state are underwater. in georgia, ian produced a rainfall, it up deterring some of the worst-hit areas. ....
hello and welcome to our viewers joining us from the united states and all around the world. i m kristie lu rescue crews strangling to rescue those stranded the national hurricane center says that the category one storm has regained some strength and is now expected to make landfall near myrtle beach in the coming hours. in florida, the hurricane has killed at least 19 people with that is an early figure. the u.s. president has warned that the loss of life could be substantial. hundreds of people have already been rescued, millions are without power. some of the damage was almost indescribable to see a house just sitting in the middle of a sterile bay. literally must have gotten picked up, flown because of the massive wind speed, the storm surge, and deposited in a body of water. there were cars floating in the middle of the water. some of the homes were total losses. the governor has called the storm surge and santa belle biblical. it s america s emerge ....
water starting to come up. they are expecting a nine-foot tide here around noon. flood stage in this area is around seven feet. the roads right now look pretty good, very little rain, very little wind at the moment but they re expecting all of that to change. the big concern here is that tide and the storm surge. those two things together. the storm surge and that landfall for ian is meant to come around the same time as that tide. depending upon where it hits, that could really push a lot more water into charleston, charleston county. charleston is now at its highest level of alert. they are warning anyone at lower levels to watch what is going on, seek higher ground if necessary. they are already starting to shut down roads in charleston itself. so they are prepared for whatever ian has. it s just not clear how big a punch it s going to take here in south carolina. back to you. all you can do now is wait. mig ed marquez in charlton, we ll come back to you shortly. l ....

just in the nomination process, essentially they re to get all 50 senate democrats here. we re looking for them to start this whole process in a matter of hours. the big question mark is when exactly will they do that. we don t quite know. they re waiting on a couple of things. you mentioned the senate parliamentarian. they re using a specialized budget process to move forward. they only need democratic senate support to get it through the senate but in order to use that process they have to make sure, they have to go through the parlia parliamentarian to finish. so they re waiting on a few more rulings from her and also waiting from the congressional budget office on how much some of these provisions will cost and how they will affect the deficit. once they have all that have in place, senate democrats can feel comfortable with a motion to proceed, which is essentially the first vote to kick off what is a very long and tedious process to get this across the finish line ....
