'I can't afford to water the lawn': Central Elgin residents angry of rising water rates


 
ST. THOMAS, ONT.
Residents in the municipality of Central Elgin, Ont. are fed up over rising water rates.
We re not asking for cheap water, we just want to be able to turn on the faucet and not get a $200 bill, says John Oliveira, a Port Stanley, Ont. resident who has started making lawn signs to express his frustration.
The signs read Stop the Madness Central Elgin with a general prohibition sign through the words water rate increase.

Green Up Day
Green Up Day will be held Saturday, May 1 from 8:00–12:30 p.m. at the Colchester Police Department. Green Up bags will be available at the Colchester Police Department beginning April 24 for folks that would like to begin prior to Green Up Day. A sign-up sheet will be located on a table with the bags, outside the front entrance, for people to put # of bags taken, # of people helping and location of trash pickup. ....
