Manager’s Message Community Justice Update One part of the Town of Colchester’s community justice efforts includes funding the Essex Community Justice Center (ECJC) in partnership with the Town of Essex and the State Department of Corrections. ECJC provides restorative justice programming with a focus on crime prevention, conflict resolution, and meeting the needs of those affected by crime. Different programs include Community Restorative Justice Panels, Community Dialogue education, and the Circle of Support and Accountability Program (COSA), which helps those recently released from incarceration to successfully re-enter society. In their spring newsletter, ECJC noted the largest trend in the Community Restorative Justice Panels since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic is a 60% increase in the number of referrals from Law Enforcement and the State Attorney’s office. Newsletter Changes: The Town of Colchester is changing newsletter distribution for those who receive it via email. We will be discontinuing the current distribution on May 3. Sign up to continue to receive the Town Newsletter here. You must sign up again to receive the newsletter. If you receive the newsletter via Front Porch Forum, our direct distribution includes graphics and pictures. Manager’s Message Green Up Day Green Up Day will be held Saturday, May 1 from 8:00–12:30 p.m. at the Colchester Police Department. Green Up bags will be available at the Colchester Police Department beginning April 24 for folks that would like to begin prior to Green Up Day. A sign-up sheet will be located on a table with the bags, outside the front entrance, for people to put # of bags taken, # of people helping and location of trash pickup.
