Much. todd: michigan governor gretchen whitmer feeling the heat as ford looks to build new electric vehicle plants in other states. carley: congressman tim wahlburg is here to react. when you think of ford, you think of michigan. why are these facilities being built in other states, kentucky and tennessee? well, that s a question, good morning, good to be with you. that s a question that we re asking, why did this happen on governor whitmer s watch? i mean, this is the motor capital of the world. it started all here. ford still has its home plant here, its headquarters and you would think that our governor would have had intimate involvement with even acquiring this plant but it appears like she wasn t even aware, her economic development team wasn t aware. ford made decisions on their own for their best interest, of course, and while we would love to keep them here, they decided to go to tennessee and kentucky. ....
do you think it s significant? any way that donald trump s lawyers are saying the president himself cannot obstruct justice because the president is the one in charge of all investigations? they certainly have been moving the goalpost. i m not sure that lawyers who are unbiased and able to take a step back would subscribe to that theory. we have heard from legal minds that if there was corrupt intent in the president s firing of dismissal of jim comey, for example, that would, in fact, be pertinent to any kind of obstruction of justice case and the president s constitutional role as commander in chief and head of our justice department and law enforcement community wouldn t have a standing in that instance. look, i think the fact remains that we have heard varying defenses from the president s attorneys. first, that the president wasn t aware. now that the president may have been aware, they still haven t clarified that. in any ways, it doesn t wrael matter. i think those legal min ....
So clearly many more questions here, brooke. and then the other layer to this is, who knew about the settlements. i ve seen quotes from the former house speaker saying wasn t aware and leader pelosi had no idea. who knew? that s right. that is the biggest question here as we dig deeper into this story. first and foremost we re hearing from speaker of the house paul ryan calls this deeply troubling report and says it is clear that changes need to be made in the system and that is what is troubling about the story beneath the surface is the fact that as buzzfeed reports the settlement was reached with one of the woman in 2015 and she got paid $27,000, importantly, from the congressman s own office. that came out of the budget for his office. and that s important because as we ve been reporting in recent weeks the process on capitol hill right now is that complaints go through the office of compliance. if it reaches the point of a settlement, then if they re paid out from a fund set ....
Information donald trump jr. has made a big deal of saying, what she was saying didn t make any sense. none of that really matters. what matters is what he understood going into this meeting. he was led to believe, as you said, this was part of a russian government effort and that this attorney was a russian government attorney, whether she was or not, she denies she is. after having that information, his statement that was sort of a cover letter to the e-mail said, i accepted the meeting, based on that information. elizabeth, we ve learned that the fbi was unaware of this meeting. what do you make of this entire situation? well, it s i can t understand why the fbi wasn t aware, but sooner or later, they would be aware because partly they may have been unaware because of false filings that were made by jared kushner and by paul manafort, not disclosing this to the government and jared kushner was in order to get top secret clearance, had to report all of his contacts and ....
