Pacaya All times are local (unless otherwise noted) Extensive lava flows, bomb-laden Strombolian explosions, and ash plumes emerging from Mackenney crater have characterized the persistent activity at Pacaya since 1961. The latest eruptive episode began with intermittent ash plumes and incandescence in June 2015; the growth of a new pyroclastic cone inside the summit crater was confirmed later that year. The cone has continued to grow, producing frequent loud Strombolian explosions rising above the crater rim and ongoing ash emissions. Special Weather Statement on Volcanic Ash into The Bahamas Special Weather Statement on Volcanic Ash into The Bahamas Volcanic Eruption of La Soufriere in St Vincent and the Possible Movement of Volcanic Ash into The Bahamas The explosive eruption of the volcano, La Soufriere, in St Vincent (Eastern Caribbean) on the 9 th April 2021 and subsequent moderate eruptions have increased the level of ash and sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere significantly in the vicinity of the Eastern Caribbean.  The latest advisory issued by the Washington Volcanic Ash Advisory Center, indicated that the plume of ash from La Soufriere has diminished and is no longer visible via satellite. Westerly winds in the upper levels have taken the majority of the volcanic ash eastward across the Atlantic to as far as the Indian Ocean, reducing its concentration in the immediate area.
