At a meeting of the Growing Mid-Wales board on Thursday, March 11, members discussed the recent announcement made in the UK Government’s budget, that its half of the £110 million will be made available over 10 years rather than the previously planned 15. It means the deal will receive £5 million a year from the UK Treasury to invest in Mid Wales, rather than the previous plan for £3.66 million. ....
Work is to start on the Dyfi Bridge CONSTRUCTION of the new £46m Dyfi Bridge near Machynlleth is set to begin in March, Economy and Transport Minister Ken Skates said today (Friday, 12 February) The scheme will improve road safety, strengthen links between communities, provide active travel opportunities and build resilience against flooding, as well as improve transport connectivity to help stimulate further economic development in this part of Wales. The new development will be a viaduct across the floodplain and a river bridge across the Afon Dyfi approximately 480m upstream of the existing bridge The current 19th century bridge is frequently closed due to flooding, an occurrence which is likely to increase with the impact of climate change. ....
THE Mid Wales Growth Deal has reached a significant milestone with the signing of the Heads of Terms by the Welsh Government, UK Government and the region’s local authorities. The signing demonstrates a commitment by both governments and the local authorities to work together to deliver a deal to support the economy of the region. It also commits both the Welsh and UK Governments to back the growth deal with a £55m investment each. The growth deal has been developed from the Vision for Growing Mid Wales which was published earlier this year and set out the broader economic strategy for the region.
