Action packed weekend ahead for Taranaki football sides

It’s a busy weekend for Taranaki clubs as league matches continue on Saturday and cup games on Monday.
The quarterfinals of the Central Federation Cup take place on Queen’s Birthday Monday, with four of the eight teams being local sides.
Peggy Gordon’s New Plymouth Rangers host Hokowhitu at Merrilands Domain. The Palmerston North club sit mid-table in the Horizon Premiership, the equivalent of the Taranaki Premier League.
Coach Andy Hamilton’s only doubt to play is Gregor Forrest who continues to be troubled with an ankle injury. Reuben Warburton returns to the squad after a couple of weeks on the sidelines. ....

Marist maintain unbeaten record in W-League title chase


Marist coach Barry Scullion said his side dominated for the first 10 minutes, then he’s not sure what happened, as the fast and furious start wasn’t maintained for the 45 minutes until half-time.
Normal service resumed in the second half as Marist were again the dominant team, but they couldn’t convert that into goals. Although, the final score should have something like 5-1, Scullion said.
Marist had 30 shots on goal, with 15 on target. Wairarapa had six, with three on target.
“It could have been a more comfortable win, but we are delighted to get the three points and stay top of the table. ....

Napier City Rovers forward Kailan Gould netted four times as Rovers continued their strong start to the Central League season with a 7-0 win against Petone.
Rovers sit in third place in the table after the trouncing at Bluewater Stadium on Sunday, bouncing back from a heavy defeat last weekend.
