Goudon wins Virtual Vendée Globe in record time after 68 days of racing Wednesday, 20 January 2021
Frenchman Jean-Claude Goudon was crowned Virtual Vendée Globe champion after coming out on top in a race that went down to the wire.
After 68 days of racing on the digital sailing platform
Virtual Regatta, there was just 1 minute and 35 seconds separating Goudon and German Ronny Jesse.
Goudon was the first to cross the finish line as he registered a record time of 68 days 22 hours 16min 4sec.
Jesse had to settle for second with 68:22:17:39 seconds while Maxime Thomas of France came third in 68:22:18:34.
Skippers from Great Britain, New Zealand, Australia, Poland and Italy also ranked highly in the final standings.
