DIMAPUR As part of its ‘Stress awareness week,’ Carl Rogers Institute of Mental Health and School Counseling (CRIMHSC), in collaboration with the directorate of State and Family Welfare under National Mental Health Programme (NMHP), conducted an awareness programme at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Kohima on Friday. Addressing the uniformed personnel, the resource person, Dr. Viketoulie Pienyu, pointed out that the worries and anxieties of life have become more prevalent in this generation. He added that our needs and wants have increased as compared to how it used to be before thereby resulting in stress. Some of the symptoms of stress, according to him, included restlessness, sleeplessness, irritability, concentration issues, headache, hypertension, diabetes, blood pressure, stroke etc. “When someone is highly stressed, they cannot be productive in their workplace. Nagaland: Discuss mental illness on public forums, says Dr. Pienyu

Our Correspondent Kohima, Oct. 10 (EMN): Senior Medical Officer at State Mental Health Institute Kohima (SMHIK), Dr. Viketoulie Pienyu on Monday urged people to discuss mental illness on public forums so that people can access treatment. While highlighting the importance of mental health, he encouraged the people to spend time with family and staying away from substances as a ‘stress buster’. Speaking on the occasion of World Mental Health Day organised by the SMHIK, the doctor also offered tips for staying mentally fit. ‘Learn to sleep well with a minimum of seven to eight hours, have daily physical exercise, and stay socially active as it is not wise to stay alone. Manage time and have a good plan,’ he advised. NBCC holds discussion on drug menace - Eastern Mirror

Our CorrespondentKohima, Sep. 29 (EMN): Sensing the rampant use of an adulterated heroin called ‘sunflower’ by youngsters in the society today, the youth department of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) youth department organised a panel discussion on ‘sunflower drug and its effect on young people today’ in Kohima, on Thursday. A senior medical officer at State Mental Institute, Kohima, Dr. Viketoulie Pienyu, observed that drug abuse was a big problem back in the 1990s. “It was the biggest social menace in the society those days. Almost one in every two or three families was affected with drug abuse in Kohima village causing a lot of harms like crime, thefts, getting jailed, being shot by undergrounds etc,” Dr. Pienyu said.
