According to a study by the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), real wages of gig workers across cities has seen a significant drop despite the volume of orders spiking and food-tech platforms improving their unit economics in the past few years. The survey involving 924 food delivery workers has found that real wages of gig workers has decreased by 11% to Rs 11,963 per month in 2022 in comparison to wages from 2019 due to rise in fuel costs and consumer price inflation.
