street. the employees, they were hysterical, they were running outside, crying. they were running the state office, which runs the foster care for the city. it s here, where parents are allowed to visit the children they had taken away from them. the baby s mom was visiting with the baby and a social worker here at the location. at some point, the mother became irate, pulled out a long kitchen knife, and began stabbing the baby. when police arrived, they arrest the baby s mother. i can t believe the baby got stabbed. reporter: soon, the baby and the mom, are taken away in separate ambulances. we do have the mother in custody. she s being questioned. we have to check on her mental stability as well. reporter: the fire department says the quick actions of the two paramedics who responded to the scene, to control the baby s bleeding, may have saved that baby s life. she is here at hopkins, in critical condition. mike schuh, reporting live, mary, back to you. al

plus the identities of two of the secret service agents caught in that sex scandal are out now and both live right here in our area. but we begin with that troubling discovery in metro. thanks for joining us tonight. i m maureen umeh. i m laura evans. shawn and brian are off tonight. the defibrillator discovery was made when someone went to use one on a man suffering a heart attack. he was later pronounced dead. fox 5 s karen gray houston is live in alexandria with the details on that story. reporter: metro is investigating the circumstances of that man s death. the incident, however, exposes potential problems with its supply of defibrillators. right now what metro is doing is being proactive replacing the 44 defibrillators they have on hand at various metro stations and they re adding dozens more brand-new state of the art units. those new defibrillators are being distributed at the station, judiciary square. some station managers are already trained how to use them
