Republican primary: Waynesboro mayor candidates participate in Q&A


Waynesboro s longtime mayor faces a challenge in the May 18 primary election.
The winner of the primary will effectively win the office, barring a write-in campaign, because there is no Democratic candidate. 
In Waynesboro, the mayor s primary responsibility is to oversee the police department. The elected official also serves as the key ceremonial figure for the borough. 
We asked each candidate the same five questions. Their submitted answers are below, with only light editing for clarity.

Why are you running for mayor of Waynesboro? 
I am running for mayor to continue the work that we are doing.  In my opinion, we have the best police dept in the county.  Also, the public relations with the community has been outstanding and I wish to continue the same. ....

Waynesboro Red Kettle Campaign exceeds past years fundraising

Waynesboro s Service Unit of the Salvation Army didn t just match last year s charitable giving, they blew away 2019 s total.
According to Tom McCloud, chairman of the Waynesboro unit, giving was up 41% over last year.
Overwhelming support, even in this most difficult year, from the volunteers and donations from the public resulted in over $14,000 being raised, McCloud said. These funds will be used in the Waynesboro, Greencastle and Mercersburg areas to support efforts of the Salvation Army to Do the Most Good.
For over 150 years, the Salvation Army has been helping individuals and families that are in need, not only at Christmas, but throughout the year. ....
