friday. just last sunday, richmond police officer gus vegas was sitting in the front row at his church, the hill in vallejo. today, an overflow crowd honors him. for the pastor, the lost is personal. he has been friends with the family more than 25 years. my family, his family, we raised our kids together. we ve gone on vacation together. i don t think we have words to be able to describe the shock and just how deep the hurt is. reporter: officer vegas was shot and killed at his home on thursday. friends say he dedicated his life to his police work, protecting others, but he was also so much more than that. he and his wife, sandra, were foster parents. vegas was slurp loved and respects and leaves hip ten behind ten kids. it s important to support sandra and the family. reporter: vegas wife says they re tremendously thankful for the outpouring of support. i miss my husband and i love him, and he will be missed. he was a great, great, great, great police officer
