Loudoun Chamber Recognizes Community Leaders

The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Meeting and Community Leadership Awards on Wednesday, Jan. 27, honoring some of the people and businesses making a difference in Loudoun.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual meeting usually a large, dressy affair in a ballroom at the National Conference Center was held virtually this year.
“While this virus may keep us apart, it cannot keep us from celebrating, and it won’t keep us from honoring the true heroes of this Chamber and our community,” said Loudoun Chamber President and CEO Tony Howard.
And also in light of the pandemic, this year the Chamber announced a new award: the #StrongerTogether award, which marked five outstanding community initiatives to alleviate the human and economic suffering in Loudoun the virus has caused. ....

A Looming Crisis? End of Eviction Moratorium Could Have 'Tsunami' Effect

Fr. Daniel Velez Rivera, of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Leesburg, took a call from Loudoun Cares in mid-March asking for his help aiding the Latino community as the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic were first felt stateside. His job? Working through Catholic Charities to provide rental assistance to Loudoun residents.
As a pastor, Velez Rivera already had a nontraditional work schedule, usually working six days a week. Now, he works seven days a week spent in large part supporting the rental assistance program. And those days can be long, sometimes close to 20 hours.
“I didn’t know what I was getting myself into,” he said, following a 14-hour workday. “I pray that I would’ve said yes even knowing what I know now.” ....

Chamber Announced Community Leadership Award Finalists

The Loudoun Chamber has announced the 2021 Loudoun Community Leadership Awards finalists. The awards honor businesses and community leaders who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment to support the strength and vitality of the Loudoun community.
In its eighth year, the program this year will place a special emphasis on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Early in the COVID pandemic, the Loudoun Chamber understood that our community needed to work together, with strength, selflessness and unity, in order to endure this public health crisis. The response we have seen from our businesses, nonprofits and residents to this crisis has been nothing short of extraordinary, as Loudouners responded with remarkable generosity and sacrifice. That is the spirit that define the Loudoun Community Leadership Awards,” Chamber President & CEO Tony Howard said. ....
