NCR still low risk for Covid-19 despite hike in new cases: OCTA

(File photo) MANILA - The National Capital Region (NCR) is under the low-risk classification for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) with an increase in its average number of new cases in the recent week, the OCTA Research Group said Tuesday. In its latest report, the group noted NCR's average of new infections for the period of December 21 to 27 is 126 - 49 cases higher than that of December 14 to 20 at 77. "The incidence or ADAR (average daily attack rate) was 0.89 per day per 100,000 while the reproduction number was 0.92. The positivity rate was 1.68 percent," the OCTA said. Only five local government units (LGUs) remained under very low-risk classification - Pateros, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Pasig, and Taguig. Their ADARs range from 0 to 0.80. The 10 LGUs classified under low risk include Caloocan, Malabon, Marikina, Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Pasay, Mandaluyong, Makati, and Las Pinas. NCR 'very low risk' for Covid-19 in time for Christmas: OCTA

(File photo) MANILA - The National Capital Region (NCR) is classified as very low risk for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) with an average of only 79 new cases per day from Dec. 14 to 20, the OCTA Research Group said Tuesday. "The incidence or ADAR (average daily attack rate) was at 0.55 per day per 100,000 individuals while the reproduction number was 0.48," the group said in its latest report. It added that the NCR's test positivity rate was 0.6 percent and it has an average of 18,127 RT-PCR tests over the past seven days. The 15 local government units (LGUs) in the NCR classified very low for Covid-19 include Pateros, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Caloocan, Marikina, Pasay, Taguig, Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Pasig, Malabon, Paranaque, Valenzuela, Manila, and Makati. "The incidence or average daily attack rate (ADAR) decreased to less than one at 0.64 per 100,000 [individuals] while the reproduction number was very low at 0.39," an OCTA latest report said. It added that NCR's positivity rate is 0.9 percent. The 13 local government units (LGUs) in the NCR classified as very low risk include Pateros, Caloocan, Las Pinas, Mandaluyong, Paranaque, Marikina, Pasig, Navotas, Valenzuela, San Juan, Manila, Pasay and Taguig. Among the 13 LGUs, Pateros logged a -100 percent growth rate with no new infections recorded and a 20 percent health care utilization rate (HCUR). In its latest report, the group noted NCR's average daily attack rate was less than one at 0.74 per day for every 100,000 individuals. "The reproduction number was very low at 0.34 while the test positivity rate was just 1.1 percent," it said. The NCR and the 11 local government units (LGUs) comprising it are classified as very low risk for Covid-19. US provides P5-M livelihood support to recovering substance users

MANILA - The United States government has launched a PHP5-million livelihood program to support Filipino nationals who are recovering from substance use disorder. The launch was held virtually on Wednesday together with representatives from the Dangerous Drugs Board, Department of Health, and 12 local government units. The "Ako ang Saklay" project is a joint initiative between the US Embassy's Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). It will be implemented for a span of two years by Ako ang Saklay Inc., a civil society organization from Central Luzon that provides community-based drug rehabilitation, which will facilitate livelihood skills training, introduce income-generating opportunities, and secure job placements for recovering drug users in 12 pilot areas.
